Statutory inspection, cleared to operate

Veltrixair operates as an independent inspection authority for overhead, gantry, jib and self-standing cranes across the Kingdom — issuing SASO-conformant statutory certificates, ISO 9927 thorough examinations, and 125% SWL load test reports. The certificate is the deliverable, and the certificate is what keeps the crane operational under KSA regulation.

Your Inspection Calendar

Four cycles. Veltrixair delivers two

KSA regulation imposes a four-tier inspection calendar on every overhead crane. Two cycles sit with the operator and their trained personnel. The other two — periodic statutory inspection and thorough examination — must be delivered by an independent inspection authority. That's what Veltrixair does.

Cycle 01 / Daily

Pre-Use Inspection

Operator-level visual check before each shift. Hook, controls, limit switches, brakes — verified and logged.

Per shiftOperator
Cycle 02 / Frequent

Monthly Frequent Inspection

Hands-on verification by trained maintenance personnel — wire rope, brakes, hooks, electrical.

Scope of Work

Twelve checks. One certificate

Every Veltrixair inspection executes the same structured task list — calibrated to the crane's OEM specification, duty class and operating environment. The package below is the standard inclusion across periodic statutory inspections, biennial thorough examinations, and standalone load testing engagements.

01

Visual & dimensional structural examination

Bridge girders, end carriages, runway beams, support columns and bracing — visual inspection plus dimensional verification of critical wear surfaces against OEM tolerance.

02

Welded connection inspection

Visual examination of all critical welds with NDT (magnetic particle or ultrasonic) on identified high-stress locations — calibrated to ISO 9927 and AWS D1.1 weld inspection criteria.

03

Hook NDT — magnetic particle & dimensional

Magnetic particle inspection of hook throat and shank, dimensional verification against OEM-stated discard limits, and serial-number verification against asset register.

04

Wire rope inspection per ISO 4309

Length-by-length inspection for broken wires, wear, corrosion, kinks and birdcaging — with discard determination per ISO 4309 criteria and remaining-life estimate where applicable.

05

Brake system inspection & testing

Hoist, bridge and trolley brake inspection — pad thickness, drum/disc condition, hydraulic system integrity, and operational testing under no-load and load conditions.

06

Limit switch & safety device verification

Upper hoist, lower hoist, end-of-travel, anti-collision and overload protection — each switch verified for correct trip-point and safe-state response.

07

Electrical insulation & continuity testing

Megger insulation resistance test on motor windings and control circuits, earth continuity verification, and panel inspection for thermal degradation or arc damage.

08

No-load functional testing

All motions exercised through full travel — hoisting, bridge, trolley, slewing where applicable — with brake response, limit switch trip and motor current behaviour observed.

09

Static load test at 100% SWL

Calibrated test weight applied at rated capacity, suspended for prescribed dwell time, with structural deflection measured and brake holding verified.

10

Static & dynamic test at 125% SWL

Overload test at 125% of safe working load — static dwell followed by full-motion dynamic test where required by ISO 9927 or commissioning protocol.

11

Overload protection device verification

Load-limiter calibration check at OEM-stated trip threshold, with pre-trip warning and trip-point response verified — calibration certificate retained for the asset record.

12

Documentation review & certificate issue

Asset register reconciliation, capacity-plate verification, prior inspection report comparison, defect register update, and SASO-conformant certificate issued under inspector signature.

Inspection Categories

Three engagements. One inspection authority

Statutory inspection is one engagement type — but inspection authority extends across the full asset lifecycle, from commissioning load tests on a brand-new crane to forensic post-incident examinations and pre-purchase due diligence on used equipment.

Cat 01 / Periodic Statutory

Periodic Statutory Inspection

Annual SASO-conformant statutory inspection — the regulatory floor required for every operational crane in the Kingdom. Certificate valid for the 12-month cycle.

  • Annual cadence
  • SASO-conformant
  • Certificate-deliverable
Cat 02 / Thorough

Thorough Examination

Biennial deep-inspection per ISO 9927 — adds NDT of welds, electrical insulation testing, hook MPI and detailed structural review beyond annual statutory scope.

  • ISO 9927 deep-inspection
  • NDT + electrical testing
  • Biennial cadence
Cat 03 / Load Testing

Static & Dynamic Load Testing

100% and 125% SWL load tests — for commissioning, post-modification verification, capacity recertification, or independent confirmation following structural repair.

  • 100% / 125% SWL test
  • Calibrated weight fleet
  • Deflection measurement
Methodology

Five disciplined phases. Documentation to certificate

Veltrixair runs every inspection through the same structured five-phase protocol. The work is documented at each step, the certificate is signed by a named inspector, and every finding is logged in a defect register that carries forward to the next inspection cycle.

iPhase 01

Pre-Inspection Documentation Review

  • OEM specification, capacity plate verification, asset register reconciliation
  • Prior inspection reports reviewed for trend and recurring findings
  • Modification history checked — any structural alterations require recertification
  • Defect register from prior cycle reviewed for closeout status
  • Operational log reviewed for incidents, overloads or unusual events
iiPhase 02

Visual & Dimensional Examination

  • Structural inspection — girders, runway, columns, bracing, hook
  • NDT on critical welds and hook (MPI, ultrasonic where required)
  • Wire rope inspection per ISO 4309 with discard determination
  • Electrical panel inspection, motor visual check, cable tray review
  • Capacity plate and warning markings verified for legibility and accuracy
iiiPhase 03

Functional Testing — No-Load

  • All motions exercised through full travel — observation of motor current
  • Brake response verified under no-load deceleration
  • Limit switches tripped and reset behaviour confirmed
  • Anti-collision and safety devices tested where fitted
  • Insulation resistance and earth continuity test results recorded
ivPhase 04

Load Testing — 100% / 125% SWL

  • Calibrated test weights mobilised, rigging verified before lift
  • Static test at 100% SWL with dwell time per ISO 9927 protocol
  • Static + dynamic test at 125% SWL where required by cycle or commissioning
  • Structural deflection measured at no-load, 100% and 125% conditions
  • Overload protection device trip-point verified at calibration threshold
vPhase 05

Reporting, Certification & Defect Register

  • Test report drafted with all measurements, observations and photographic record
  • Defect register updated — severity classified as immediate / corrective / monitoring
  • SASO-conformant inspection certificate issued under inspector signature
  • NDT and load-test reports compiled into the certificate pack
  • Asset record updated in Veltrixair lifecycle platform for next-cycle reference
Standards & Compliance

Inspected to international standard, certified to KSA regulation

Statutory inspection sits at the intersection of KSA regulation and international engineering standard. Every Veltrixair inspection is delivered, documented and certified against the standards stack below — with reports and calibration records retained for the full statutory record-keeping period.

Why Veltrixair

The independentinspector that doesn't keep you waiting

Inspection authority depends on independence — the inspector cannot also be the maintenance contractor on the same asset. Veltrixair preserves that regulatory firewall by fielding a dedicated inspector pool, calibrated test fleet and credential register that stand independent of our maintenance and installation operations.

01 / Independent Inspection Authority

Regulatory firewall preserved between maintenance and inspection

Veltrixair can be the maintenance contractor for crane A and the independent inspector for crane B at the same site — but never both for the same asset. The inspector pool is operationally separate, with its own credentials, escalation chain and reporting line. The regulator's expectation of independence is upheld.

02 / In-Kingdom Inspector Pool

Saudi-based inspectors, no foreign mobilization delays

Our inspector pool is resident in the Kingdom — no exit / re-entry visa cycles, no foreign-mobilization timeline slippage, no cancelled inspections because the assigned inspector couldn't return on schedule. Annual and biennial cycles delivered without surprises.

03 / Calibrated Test Weight Fleet

Owned and calibrated, not rented at short notice

Veltrixair owns its calibrated test weight fleet (1 tonne to 250 tonne sets) with current calibration certificates traceable to SASO-recognised metrology authority — not rented from third parties whose certificates may be expired or lost in transit on inspection day.

04 / Defect Register Continuity

Multi-year inspection trend data per asset

Inspection records carry across years, attached to each crane in our lifecycle platform. Multi-year trend data informs the next inspection plan — recurring findings get escalated, closed-out defects are verified, and the asset's inspection history travels with the asset across ownership changes.

What You Get

The certificate pack

An inspection produces paper. Specifically, four pieces of paper that together prove the crane is cleared to operate, document what was tested, and create the audit trail that survives regulatory scrutiny years later. Every Veltrixair inspection delivers all four.

Pack 01
Inspection Certificate

SASO-conformant certificate signed by named inspector with credential reference. Valid for the regulated cycle period — the document the regulator and the insurer require.

Pack 02
Defect Register

Itemised list of findings classified as immediate / corrective / monitoring. Each defect numbered, photographed and tracked to closeout in the next cycle's inspection.

Pack 03
NDT Reports

Hook MPI report, structural NDT findings, and wire-rope inspection records with technician credentials referenced — the technical evidence behind the certificate.

Pack 04
Photo Dossier

Time-stamped, GPS-tagged photographic record of the inspection — archived in the Veltrixair PDPL-compliant digital store, accessible to the asset owner across the asset's life.
